3D Pinball: Space Cadet Browser Edition

This page runs Luis Russo's browser port of 3D Pinball: Space Cadet. Beyond keeping the ball alive, the 1995 PC table asks you to select missions, fill the progress ring, climb nine ranks, and build timed score multipliers. A current production check confirmed the table load, ball launch, and both flippers.

Game Rerun review

Overview

The game released on Windows in 1995 is the reference version for the table rules and PC cheat codes below. The playable version here is Luis Russo's later JavaScript and WebAssembly port, based on the SpaceCadetPinball reverse-engineering work. It presents the Space Cadet table rather than the complete three-table Full Tilt! Pinball package.

The browser port keeps the table and scoring logic but changes the surrounding program: music is disabled, the original game menu is hidden, the table resizes with the window, and R, C, and T were added for restart, the right flipper, and sound effects.

To start a mission, hit one of the three mission targets above the left flipper, then send the ball up the launch ramp to accept the selected objective. Completed missions light the 18-lamp progress ring; filling it promotes you through nine ranks, from Cadet to Fleet Admiral. Available missions and their required shots change as your rank rises.

Scoring is not only about random bumper hits. Repeatedly clear the three field-multiplier drop targets in the upper-left area to move through 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x. The highest lit multiplier steps down after 60 seconds, so a valuable multiplier should change which targets you pursue.

Extra balls and table advantages come from deliberate target sets. Completing the medal bank for a third commendation awards an extra ball, while repeated hyperspace shots can activate the center post, light extra-ball lanes, and eventually turn on the gravity well. Active missions require fuel, which can be restored through the fuel chute or by lighting the fuel targets.

Cheat Codes

1995 Windows PC version: Unlimited balls: Start a new game and, before launching the first ball, type bmax. Each drained ball is replaced automatically from the yellow wormhole.

1995 Windows PC version: Extra ball: Start a new game and, before launching the first ball, type 1max. An extra ball is awarded after the current ball drains.

1995 Windows PC version: Advance one rank: Start a new game and, before launching the first ball, type rmax. Repeat the code to advance again, up to the highest rank.

1995 Windows PC version: Activate the gravity well: Start a new game and, before launching the first ball, type gmax. The gravity well in the center of the table is activated.

1995 Windows PC version: Mouse-control debug mode: Start a new game and type hidden test, including the space. Click and hold the ball with the mouse to move it around the table.

Before you play

  • Select the outer Play Now button, review the displayed controls, choose Start, then select the large play icon to load the table.
  • Hold Space to pull back the plunger and release it to set the launch strength. On the original table, letting the ball roll back after lighting the third deployment lamp gives the highest skill-shot award.
  • For an early promotion, hit a mission target and use the launch ramp to accept the objective. Watch the message display instead of shooting every lit target at random.
  • Each flipper press rotates the re-entry and launch-lane lights. Use that movement to complete a three-light lane set before the ball crosses it.
  • Clear the upper-left multiplier bank repeatedly, then spend the 2x to 10x window on reliable loops through the launch ramp, bumpers, and wormholes.
  • Complete the three medal targets repeatedly; the third commendation awards an extra ball and is a safer long-run goal than chasing only large one-off shots.
  • Refill when the fuel display is low, because an empty fuel gauge aborts the active mission and prevents selection of another mission until fuel returns.
  • Use X only for a small correction near a drain. Repeated nudges trigger TILT, disable the table components, and leave the ball to drain.

Known limitations

  • The game screen and control labels are displayed in English.
  • This browser port disables the original music and hides the game menu. T toggles sound effects, not the missing music track.

FAQ

Which version of 3D Pinball: Space Cadet is playable here?

The table is Luis Russo's browser port based on the SpaceCadetPinball reverse-engineering work. It recreates the Space Cadet table from the 1995 Windows PC game; it is not the complete three-table Full Tilt! Pinball package, and the port hides the original menu and disables music.

How do missions and ranks work in Space Cadet?

Hit a mission target, send the ball up the launch ramp to accept that objective, and complete the shots named on the display. Mission rewards fill the 18 progress lights; filling the ring promotes you through nine ranks from Cadet to Fleet Admiral.

How do you raise the Space Cadet score multiplier?

Clear all three field-multiplier drop targets in the upper-left area. Repeated clears raise the multiplier through 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x, while the highest lit level steps down after 60 seconds.

What are the browser flipper and launch keys?

Press Z for the left flipper and C for the right flipper. Hold and release Space to control the launch strength.

What happens if you nudge the table too much?

Repeated nudges trigger TILT. The table components stop responding and the current ball drains, so use X only for a small correction.

Do the listed PC cheat codes belong to the browser port?

The cheat codes in this guide are specifically labeled for the 1995 Windows PC version. The browser port changes the menu and several keys, so its current six-key control guide is the correct reference for normal browser play.
